Moving to a new place can be pretty isolating, particularly if it’s a new country. But there will probably be some immigrant communities with which your new wife can hang out so that she can be with people who understand her culture and/or her language.

• Make Space

This is probably the most important step to making someone feel welcome in a new home. You have to make space for her to put her things. Reality is such that a man who marries a foreign woman and then brings her home may have to be the sole breadwinner for a while. Being a foreigner, his new wife may not have the clearance to work in the new country. As such, if you’re in this position, it’s on you to make sure that everything is taken care of.

The life that your foreign lady left behind to live with you may not necessarily be all that great, but it was hers all the same. It was her friends and her family that she’s leaving. So it helps that there’s someone waiting for her to make her feel welcome.
