How a Foreigner in the Philippines Found His Soulmate

“I just jumped on a plane, and there I was.”

That was John’s response after being asked about his love story’s beginnings.

I really felt (the) calling to do that. But I thought at the same time, I was single and I was going to enjoy it. I was going to travel and go to these other places,” he said.

All thoughts of traveling elsewhere changed when John met his now-wife, Gelly.

The moment he first met her in the lobby of the socials venue, he couldn’t keep her off his mind. “After meeting Gelly, I flew back a couple of months later. I saw her again and we got closer and closer. I just lost interest in going to any more socials,” he admits.

Gelly was just as enamored by John. She shared that during their first meeting, she found her intentions to be sincere and genuine. She also kept him in her prayers, wishing he’d find the right person—even if that person wasn’t her.

“I was thinking of going to Cebu and meeting another 200 girls. She didn’t give me a hard time about it,” John says.

Gelly was on the verge of tears as she told John to do what he wanted. She didn’t want him to stop following his heart because she looked out for his happiness.

Fortunately for Gelly, she had already won John’s heart at that point. “Why do I want to put her and me through that? I just felt like it was so nice already, (with) everything (and) the way that it’s happened,” he says.
