Single Ukrainian Women: Finding Love in the Midst of War

“It’s [going to] take [a] few months for us to figure out what we can do…”

Our local matchmakers are trying their best to assist Ukraine women who are looking for men to love despite the war.

The war in Ukraine has had a significant impact on its people, compelling them to leave their homeland in search of refuge. However, amidst this turmoil, single Ukrainian women still hold onto the hope of finding love.

These women have endured a great deal, which is why they dream of finding someone who they can rebuild their lives with. For them, dating is a means to reconnect with others and establish connections during times of darkness.

Foreign Affair personnel have had to be resourceful to help these women.

“…we have to establish new locations for them. We have to call [thousands of] people…It would take [months] before we find out who’s living here,” one of our local matchmakers said.

Finding love in the midst of a war is no easy task. The volatile situation across various regions of Ukraine makes it challenging for women to stay in one place. Many have already fled the country, with some seeking refuge in Poland and other nearby nations. This poses difficulties for Ukrainian matchmakers in organizing dating events such as the Socials.

“They’re not [going to] travel for one social. They’re not in a position to afford such travel…”

Foreign Affair socials tour will require participants to travel and stay in a hotel for the duration of the event. The event typically lasts a few hours. However, attendees may face challenges in commuting by bus or train to return home after the event.

Although taxis are available, they can be expensive. The financial limitations of people in the area further complicate the organization of socials. These factors are taken into consideration by our matchmakers prior to holding socials in Ukraine.

“There’s a lot of challenges…and we don’t know how many people will attend.”

Our dedicated personnel still remain hopeful.

“Right now, it’s…not dangerous yet, but we don’t know how things can unfold.”

Ukraine has been experiencing significant developments. Some areas may be affected by the war, while others are not. However, the situation remains unpredictable. Nonetheless, Foreign Affair local matchmakers in certain parts of Ukraine continue to work.

“…We do the paperwork. Everything is ready to go. I’m just waiting for more clarity on what’s going on.”

Men from outside Ukraine have shown great concern for the women in Ukraine, and are seeking assistance in connecting with Ukrainian women. These men are willing to provide support even to women they have not yet met in person, recognizing that women, along with children, are the most vulnerable during times of war.

However, our local personnel do not recommend signing documents to make you financially responsible for someone, as this can lead to future complications.

“I’m not saying you should not do this, but at least think twice before you commit to something serious.”

While Foreign Affairs will go to great lengths to provide assistance, there are limitations to what we can do. The war in Ukraine has restricted our movements and capacity to carry out our usual activities. Nevertheless, rest assured that we will resume our efforts with full force once the situation improves.
